What about quarantine?
Not all countries require your pet to quarantine. Some countries require that your pet quarantine in south Africa for a few days before travelling. Some pets imported into south Africa will be subjected to a short quarantine period depending on which country they originate from. Contact us for more information.
Do I need to consult a veterinarian?
Any travelling pet will need veterinary documentation, health checks and vaccinations. When travelling internationally a vet will need to send blood samples to a certified lab. Fortunately, The Pet Courier is owned by a SAVC registered veterinarian that handles all your pets’ veterinary requirements such as health checks, microchipping, vaccination, parasite treatment and blood sampling.

What kind of travel container do I need?
There are very specific travel container requirements when it comes to air travel for pets. The Pet Courier provides plastic containers or custom-built wooden transport crates. These containers are built according to IATA specifications.
What if my pet can’t travel the same time as I do?
This is the most likely scenario. If your pet will be staying at our kenneling facilities, we will take care of all transport needs from the kennels to their destination within SA or to the airport.

Will my pet be sedated during his trip?
Pets are not sedated for travel as there are some risks to sedatives/tranquilizers.
